Young Chickenhawk Tries to Smear John Kerry

Part I: The Chickenhawk

Meet Jason Mattera.  Jason is the kind of useless American that makes any good citizen’s skin crawl.  Here he is on Hardball with Chris Matthews in 2006:

The transcript is here.  That segment on Hardball earned Jason a spot as our Chickenhawk of the Day on VetVoice a while back.  Since then, he’s made quite a name for himself in conservative circles.

Part II: The Smear

This is Jason harassing decorated Vietnam veteran and Senator John Kerry earlier this week, while working as a "correspondent" for fellow young chickenhawk Michelle Malkin:

As a veteran of two wars myself, I have to say that Mattera’s conduct really turns my stomach.  But fortunately, I’m not alone.

Part III: The Reality

Fortunately, the majority of young Americans who’ve actually served in Iraq and Afghanistan don’t agree with young, able-bodied Jason.  In fact, I have a photo of 26 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan--all members of VoteVets--taken with Senator John Kerry just last week.  Here it is:

Because see, the one striking thing about that video of Mattera and Kerry is that Mattera has no combat veterans backing him up.  He is alone in his smear attempt--backed up only by Michelle Malkin and the money she’s earned through advertisements directed toward her keyboard commando readers.

So they can slander all they want, but they will not do it with the military’s help.  The military looks upon such people with utter contempt.  And that’s why we stood with John Kerry last Tuesday.  If you need more proof, click here, here, here, or here.

Part IV: Conclusion

One day, when Jason Mattera has his own son, I’m sure the boy will come to him--in a living room filled with portraits of Real American War Heroes like George W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld--and ask, "Daddy, what did you do during the Great Global War on Terror?"

And at this point, Jason will most likely lie.  Because if he told the truth, he would be forced to say, "Son, I certainly believed in the Great Global War on Terror, but I was too afraid to go myself--even when many soldiers had to serve four and five separate tours, for 15 months at a time.  I just couldn’t bring myself to step in and help them out.  Instead, my job was to act as a lackey for cowards more powerful than myself--because they gave me a sense of purpose I didn’t otherwise have.  In fact, son, once during that time, I even harassed a man who’d been highly decorated and wounded in Vietnam.  I did it because I wanted to feel useful.  I wanted to feel important.  And I wanted people to like me.  Because inside, I knew I was a coward."

This week--while Jason Mattera spent his time trying to smear a Vietnam veteran in the halls of Congress--12 Americans, all of whom were around Mattera’s age, died in Iraq.
